Taking the leap into marriage can be exciting and overwhelming. I have designed marriage classes that discuss the leading issues that lead to divorce to help couples prevent the issues before they begin.

As a mediator, I regularly see how unresolved issues can build over time and turn into patterns of conflict, resentment, and disconnection.

Through these classes, couples will learn practical tools to communicate, navigate conflict, and address common issues in a healthy and productive way.

My hope is that couples will leave feeling more confident in their decisions, are prepared to navigate the challenges that come with marriage, and have the tools they need to build a marriage that is strong, connected, and resilient.

Marriage Classes

1. Communication

It may sound cliché, but communication really is at the heart of a healthy marriage. It’s not just about talking—it’s about knowing how to listen, understand one another, express your needs, and disagree in productive ways. Learn tools for navigating difficult conversations and working through the recurring issues that every couple will face.

2. Trust

Trust is one of the most foundational pieces of a strong marriage. It influences how safe you feel being vulnerable, communicating openly, and relying on one another. We’ll explore how trust is built, how everyday actions strengthen or weaken it, and how couples can intentionally create greater emotional safety in their relationship.

3. Values

What matters most to you? What matters most to your partner? Couples don’t have to agree on everything, but differences in core values can influence decisions about family, finances, faith, careers, parenting, and the future. We’ll identify your individual and shared values and discuss how to navigate the places where they differ.

4. Love Languages

Hearing that you are loved and actually feeling loved can be two very different things. We will explore the love languages and discuss how you and your partner naturally give and receive affection. More importantly, you’ll learn how understanding these differences can strengthen your connection in everyday life.

5. Finances

Money can become a significant source of stress and conflict in marriage. We will talk openly about spending, saving, budgeting, debt, financial priorities, and the emotions and experiences that shape how each of you views money. The goal is to learn how to approach finances as a team rather than allowing money to become a source of division.

6. Assumptions & Expectations

We all enter relationships with expectations, many of which we may not even realize we have. Who cooks dinner? How will holidays be spent? How clean should the house be? What does being a “good” spouse look like? We’ll uncover the assumptions you may be bringing from your family of origin and discuss expectations before they turn into frustration or resentment.

7. The Importance of Play

You’re choosing someone to share everyday life with for years to come, so friendship and fun matter! Playfulness can strengthen connection, create positive memories, relieve stress, and even change the way couples approach conflict. We’ll explore ways to protect your friendship and intentionally make room for fun throughout your marriage.

8. Sex & Intimacy

Physical and emotional intimacy can be deeply connecting, but differences in expectations, preferences, and desire can create challenges. We will discuss the difference between sex and intimacy, expectations surrounding physical affection, and ways couples can communicate respectfully about their individual needs and preferences.

9. Partner Roles

Who does what? Who is responsible for making sure it gets done? From household chores and finances to careers and childcare, couples often enter marriage with different expectations about roles and responsibilities. We’ll discuss what partnership looks like in your relationship and how to create a division of responsibilities that feels intentional and workable for both partners.

10. Building Healthy Habits

Strong marriages are often built through small, consistent choices. We’ll identify habits and routines that can strengthen your connection, support your individual well-being, and help you intentionally create the marriage, home, and family life you both want.
